Learn the Printmaking Technique of Engraving In-Person
Engraving is an intaglio technique of incising lines onto a hard flat surface like plexi glass, steel, or copper. For this class we will use plexi glass. We will use a tool with a sharpened needle like end to create incised lines into the plexi glass. The surface is then inked and wiped and only the incised lines hold the ink. It is then run through a press to create your image. Engraving allows for multiple prints called an edition. Two famous engravers are Albrecht Dürer and William Blake.
As this is a class for beginners, you will be working on a plate that measures 4 x 5. Come with a drawing or a photo you want to work with. I have an engraving tool for you to use.
This class will be done in two sessions; the second session will be on Saturday March 31, from 1-3pm. You must have been in the first session to take the second session.
