Whether you’re an aspiring screenwriter or simply someone who loves a great movie, come join us for this four-part general introduction to the art and craft of screenwriting. Through class exercises, screening film clips and reviewing selected examples, we will dig into the basics of what makes a screenplay work, from action and plot to character and dialogue.  If you’ve ever had a story you thought would be perfect for the screen, consider this your first step to getting it there. 

Howard Marc Solomon is an award-winning writer in film and television, and theater.  Most recently, his screenplay LAGUNA MADRE was officially selected as a finalist for the Oaxaca Film Fest 2017.  Before his recent move to Rochester, he and his family lived in Brooklyn, NY where he wrote for a variety of television projects—from long-running soap operas to new educational programming for kids.  He holds an MFA in Playwriting from Carnegie Mellon University and has taught writing and criticism at the University of Rochester and the College of New Rochelle. In film and television production, he has worked closely with such luminaries as directors Robert Altman and David Mamet, and producer Michael Hausman.  He’s thrilled be sharing what he knows with the Rochester Writes community.
