Embossing: Printmaking Technique In-Person
Would you like to learn printmaking techniques? This is the first in a series of classes where you will learn how to make your own prints. Printmaking allows you to create multiples of your design. The first in this series is a White Embossing. Embossing is a technique where objects are passed through a press to create textures on dampened paper. The result is your own embossed print.
To get an embossed effect the objects should be soft and/or flat, between 1/8-1/4 inch high, they must have some sort of dimension to them. Thicker lace that has some dimension will work, thick doilies work great. The types of things you can bring are felt, thick doilies, fabric that has high texture, pieces of cardboard that you can cut into shapes, leaves, flowers, very small seed beads, small flat buttons, puzzle pieces, rubber bands, string, and yarn, anything that is small and or soft to pass under the rollers will work. I have lots of cardboard you can use.
We will be working on a small table top press. Think about a design you want to create, bring your idea to class. Your finished work could measure about 8 x 10 or smaller.
This is a beginner class; it is not for those with a background in printmaking. This class is for ages 16 and older and requires registration. Please register here: http://calendar.libraryweb.org/event/3449514
