Resonanz Commemorates Frederick Douglass & Harriet Tubman

Resonanz Commemorates Frederick Douglass & Harriet Tubman In-Person

Frederick Douglass made Rochester home for nearly 25 years. Commemorate his life and legacy, and that of Abolition and Suffrage pioneer, Harriet Tubman, in this evocative, one-hour musical retrospective for narrator, solo vocalists, keyboard and choir, performed by Resonanz, the touring ensemble of the Rochester Oratorio Society.

This varied and beautiful program includes readings of excerpts from Douglass's most famous orations, Spirituals, Gospel music, and operatic excerpts by contemporary American composers Kirke Mechem, Steven Dobrogosz and Andre Thomas, and by former Eastman School of Music choral director, Robert DeCormier, the long-time musical director for Peter, Paul and Mary.
