Growing Blackberries and Raspberries in the Home Garden Online
Raspberries and blackberries, also called brambles, are the most diverse group of cultivated fruits in the world. Hundreds of species grow throughout the northern temperate regions and provide growers a wide selection of sweet, juicy, and healthy fruit. Homegrown berries are far more flavorful than the store-bought kinds because they are fresher and provide the perfect amount of sweetness for your taste.
You will learn about the different varieties of raspberries and blackberries for your taste. Site preparation, controlling pests, and caring for these plants will be covered - from planting to harvesting. The differences between raspberries and blackberries will also be explained.
Homegrown raspberries and blackberries are far more flavorful and healthier than the ones that you buy at your local grocery store. They are packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and can be consumed in many ways by eating them fresh to preservers or as dessert fillings for delicious home-baked treats.
This class will be presented by Jarmila Haseler, Agricultural Educator from the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Monroe County.
