Growing Garlic in the Home Garden

Growing Garlic in the Home Garden Online

Join us for a program about growing garlic, presented by Jarmila Haseler Agricultural & Food Systems Educator from the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Monroe County.

Garlic is one of the easiest plants to grow in your vegetable plot and fall is the perfect season for planting! Planting in November works well in our climate because it allows enough time for a good root establishment. Although easy to grow, producing high-quality garlic with large, tasty, full-flavored cloves while avoiding pests and diseases requires skill and knowledge.

During the workshop you will learn about planting, growing, harvesting, curing, and storing your garlic. We will also discuss common pests & diseases and compare Hardneck and Softneck and their differences.

You can purchase a high quality, organic certified garlic to plant in your home garden from the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Monroe County. This stock is a hardneck German White seed garlic from Fraser's Garlic Farm, Churchville, NY. You can plant your garlic until the soil freezes, November is a great time to do it!
