Making and Meaning Series. Session Four: Fallout and Downwinders: visual examinations of the nuclear age Online

The lecture series, Making and Meaning, is a public engagement opportunity in which patrons can learn about the history of art through topical virtual lectures. Each session will be 90 minutes in length, with approximately 60 minutes of lecture/slide presentation/video and 30 minutes of Q&A. The content of each session will be geared to excite participants about art history in a way that moves past traditional Western-centered surveys and invites viewers to consider the context of the works discussed.

Session 4: Fallout and Downwinders: visual examinations of the nuclear age

Since the inception of the atomic age, artists around the globe have generated visual responses to the development, use, and threat of nuclear weapons. In this session, we will examine works that consider the physical, psychological, environmental, and cultural effects of radiation, uranium mining and disposal, and nuclear weapons.
