*Registration for each date is open*
Every other month, 7:00-8:30 PM
For Adults
Presented by Monroe County Library System Member Libraries and Rochester Against Antisemitism. Join MCLS and RAA for a series of online book discussions about antisemitism and Israel. Conversations will be held online and will focus on the following books:
August 20: People Love Dead Jews by Dara Horn | Register here
Discussion Facilitator: Ahavya Deutsch
About the book: Horn reflects on subjects as far-flung as the international veneration of Anne Frank, the mythology that Jewish family names were changed at Ellis Island, the blockbuster traveling exhibition Auschwitz, the marketing of the Jewish history of Harbin, China, and the little-known life of the "righteous Gentile" Varian Fry. Throughout, she challenges us to confront the reasons why there might be so much fascination with Jewish deaths, and so little respect for Jewish lives unfolding in the present.
October 15: Jewish Pride: Rebuilding a People by Ben Freeman | Register here
Discussion Facilitator: Jacqui Lipschitz
About the book: Calling on his experiences within the LGBTQIA+, Ben Freeman talks about rejecting the shame inflicted by antisemitism and reclaiming pride in being Jewish
December 17: Israel: A Simple Guide by Noa Tishby | Register here
Discussion Facilitator: TBD
About the book: Israel. The small strip of arid land is 5,700 miles away but remains a hot-button issue and a thorny topic of debate. But while everyone seems to have a strong opinion about Israel, how many people actually know the facts?
