Summer Tales: Inspiring Adventures with Rochester Public Library Unlock imagination, explore worlds, and ignite curiosity with us this summer. In-Person

Come join us at the Central Library of Rochester & Monroe County on Saturday, June 8th, from 9:30 AM to 4 PM for engaging and enriching workshops! Registration is mandatory. City of Rochester programs will be given priority. Upon attending the workshops and completing a brief survey, participants will receive a token of appreciation. Indulge in light refreshments and stand a chance to win exciting book prizes throughout the day. 

Some of the Workshops Include:

Discover Your Next Beloved Read!  Dive into a world where children find both windows and mirrors through captivating storytelling. Join us to uncover new in the world of children’s books and brainstorm exciting ways to extend books with engaging activities for your daycare, classroom, or summer program.

Igniting Early Reading Adventures - Join us as we explore the essential components of early literacy crucial for children's development. Together, we'll explore the power of talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing, to engage parents and caregivers in fostering literacy skills within the home environment.  

Empowering Trusted Messengers: Spreading the Talking is Teaching Movement Across Rochester- Learn about your role as a Trusted Messenger in our community and how you can share the Talking is Teaching: Talk, Read, Sing campaign everywhere you go. Let’s make Rochester a community where adults are talking, reading, and singing to children everywhere!  

Raising A Reader Program Management -This workshop is designed for childcare programs in the City of Rochester serving children aged birth to 4 years, who are keen on partnering with Rochester Public Library as a Raising A Reader site for the 2024 – 2025 school year. Discover the ins and outs of the RPL Raising A Reader program and gain insights into the expectations for implementing this enriching initiative at your site.

Using The Pyramid Model Book Nooks to Build Social-Emotional Literacy: Book Nooks were created for teachers, caregivers, and parents to provide hands-on ways to embed social -emotional skill building activities into everyday routines. During this session we will explore social-emotional developmental milestones and strategies to build social-emotional literacy within your program. You will have an opportunity to explore a variety of children’s books that are connected to Book Nook activity cards and role play the activities and strategies outlined.

DIY Flannelboards: Join us for a creative session where participants are encouraged to stay after the workshops and utilize our die cut machines to craft flannel shapes, letters, numbers, animals, and more. Limited supplies will be provided for this hands-on experience.
