Guitar Concert: Kinloch Nelson In-Person
Spend an hour with local guitar legend Kinloch Nelson in concert.
Over a decades-long guitar performance career Nelson has played folk, classical, ragtime, American primitive, Celtic, new-age, R & B, surf, rock, country, jazz music and numerous original compositions in bands, ensembles and as a solo performer/composer.
Nelson has been reviewed in Just Jazz Guitar Magazine, Fretboard Journal, Rolling Stone and Mojo Magazines, contributed transcriptions and instruction videos to Acoustic Guitar Magazine, performed for NPR radio and TV, and released CDs/&vinyl on Tompkins Square, Heartland, BKNjr, and Sampler Records.
Performance credits, among others include Rochester Time/Warner Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, Owens Sound Folk Festival, Fretted Instrument Guild of America, Artisan Guitar Festival, the Newport, Healdsburg, and Miami Guitar Shows, The NAAM Shows in Nashville & Los Angeles, and ten years as a regular performer and teacher at the Luthier's Invitational Guitar Festival in Woodstock NY.
Background Studies and teaching credits - Nelson studied classical guitar with British guitarist/composer Stanley Watson, jazz guitar with Gene Bertoncini at Eastman Music School, and music theory at the University of Rochester. Teaching credits include 25 years at Hochstein Music School in Rochester, NY, four years with Maryland Summer Center for the Arts in Baltimore, and numerous workshops and clinics at guitar festivals in the US and Canada since 2004. He is also an amateur luthier, and hang-glider pilot.
Over the years Nelson has opened for John Renbourn, David Bromberg, Tommy Emmanuel, Spider John Koerner, and Leo Kotke among others, and done concerts together with Laurence Juber (Paul McCartney & Wings), Mark Goldenberg (Jackson Brown) Muriel Anderson (NAMM All Star Guitar Night), Teje Gerken (Acoustic Guitar Mag & Peghead Nation), Al Petteway (Ken Burns documentaries), Stephen Bennett, (the Harp Guitar Gathering), Shawn Phillips (Donovan), Don Alder, Tony McManus, Harvey Reid, Michael Chapdelaine, Peter Lang and numerous others in today's fingerstyle guitar scene.
