The History of The New York State Veterans Cemetery - Finger Lakes In-Person
Waterloo, the birthplace of Memorial Day, is also home to the New York State Veterans Cemetery. The cemetery is located at the site of the former Sampson Naval Training Station and Sampson Air Force Base where hundreds of thousands of service members trained during World War II and the Korean War. Cemetery Director, William Yale, will present on the rich history of Veterans cemeteries and the services they offer. Did you know that Veterans are entitled to free NYS Park passes? Following the presentation, we will have a volunteer available to help veterans register for their free passes. Veterans will need to bring their NYS ID with veteran designation or their DD214.
