Travelogue: Under the Volcanoes: A trip with scientists to study underwater volcanoes in the South Pacific In-Person

During 2010-2011, Kevin Kurtz spent 8 weeks at sea with scientists aboard the scientific drillship the JOIDES Resolution. "We drilled into a chain of underwater volcanoes a few hundred miles from New Zealand. We'll talk about life at sea, the science of volcanoes, how a ship at sea can operate a drill that is thousands of feet long, and more."

Kevin Kurtz is an award-winning author of 27 (and counting) nonfiction children's books about science and nature. He has worked with scientists studying marine life along the Atlantic coast, studying volcanoes in the South Pacific, and studying the crater from the asteroid impact that wiped out the dinosaurs. He lives in upstate New York. You can learn more about Kevin and his books at www.kevkurtz.com
