NYS Boater Safety Course Part 1 In-Person
In 2023 a Boating Safety Certificate is required by law in NY for anyone born after January 1, 1983, to operate a motorboat and for all operators of a personal watercraft (PWC). By 2025 all boaters will be required to have a certificate.
The NY State Boater Course covers the fundamentals of safe boating operation and is approved by the National Association of Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA).
This is a 2 part course with 8 hours of classroom instruction. You must attend both parts and pass a closed book exam. Textbooks are provided.
Children must be at least 10 years of age to enroll.
After successful completion a permanent Boater Safety Certificate is issued by New York State Parks. Students under the age of 18 will receive their certificate free from NYSP. Those 18 or older in addition to the class fee, pay NYS Parks a $10.00 fee for their permanent certificate.
Fee: $40 per person. Payable by check at first class.
Instructors are Captain John Johnston and Captain Lynda Fisher, U.S. Coast Guard licensed Captains and Certified Marina Pro Powerboat Instructors for National Safe Boating Council, both with extensive on the water training experience with recreational boaters.
