Growing Orchids in Rochester

Growing Orchids in Rochester In-Person

Join us for a program about growing orchids, presented by David Weiss. Orchids are fascinating plants with interesting and often beautiful flowers! This presentation will include basic information on orchid distribution around the world, identification characteristics, naming, and of course how to grow orchids in northern New York. David will bring some blooming orchids to discuss.

You are welcome to bring in your orchids for discussion. They might be very happy with beautiful flowers, or maybe a little sad and need some special care!

In anticipation of the 2025 Genesee Region Orchid Show come and learn about orchids and how to grow them in Rochester! The show is scheduled for March 28 – March 30, at the Rochester Museum and Science Center, Eisenhart Auditorium.

David is a Kodak-retired PhD chemist and past President of the Genesee Region Orchid Society (GROS). David began growing orchids and joined the Genesee Region Orchid Society over 45 years ago when a friend gave him an orchid. He grows orchids under light in his basement and outside during the summer months.
