The Construction of the Rochester Aqueduct with Steve Boerner In-Person
The village of Rochester was founded at the falls of the Genesee River in 1811. The new community struggled at first but its fortunes suddenly changed in 1816 with the arrival of surveyors laying out the line of the Erie Canal. This presentation will cover the early years of Rochester, its milling industry, the arrival of the Erie Canal, and the construction of the first Rochester aqueduct. This year is the bicentennial of the completion of the canal, and the presenter, who has been making a series of illustrations depicting the canal's early history, will also talk about how he created an image showing the aqueduct under construction in 1822.
