Rochester's Edgerton Park: Past and Present

Rochester's Edgerton Park: Past and Present In-Person

From a children’s institution to county fairgrounds, Rochester’s Edgerton Park is one of the most unique sites in the city. Today, the park contains a recreation center, model railroad room, waterpark, and athletic fields. The recreation center was originally the chapel of the Western House of Refuge, an institution for troubled youth in the 19th century. This talk will cover daily life at the Western House, and how the county converts the former institution into an exposition park, zoo, aquarium, library, and sports arena.

About the speaker: Natalie Klein obtained her B.S. in Anthropology and History from SUNY Brockport. She is a masonry restoration apprentice and a casual archaeologist.
