Memorial Art Gallery Field Trip: Alma Thomas Exhibit In-Person
Join Kirsten & Sue on Thursday, May 15th from 6:30-8:00 PM for a guided tour of the Alma Thomas exhibit currently on view at Memorial Art Gallery.
(This field trip is in anticipation of a program we will have at the library in July, but the MAG show closes on May 25th.)
MAG says, "Composing Color: Paintings by Alma Thomas invites you to see the world through the eyes of this singular figure in the story of twentieth-century American art. Thomas developed her exuberant form of abstract painting after retiring from a long career as a schoolteacher. Taking inspiration from nature, the cosmos, and music for her vibrant, rhythmic art, Alma Thomas incorporated the intuitive approach of gestural abstraction and beaming hues of color field painting into her work, which goes beyond established genres."
"Thomas rarely picked up a paintbrush without a soundtrack. Memorial Art Gallery invites visitors to bring headphones and a personal device to explore the exhibition with our staff-curated playlists on Spotify."
We will all join a docent-led tour of the Alma Thomas exhibition starting at 6:45, then peel off from the rest of the MAG tour to visit the Brown Hound Cafe in the atrium to chat about Alma's work.
Please register in advance, and bring a discounted admission fee of $10.00 to MAG that evening (or you can pick up a V.I.P. Pass for Memorial Art Gallery at a Monroe County Library for discounted admission.) We hope you can join us!
