Breaking Barriers: The Life of Frances Perkins

Breaking Barriers: The Life of Frances Perkins In-Person

When a young Frances Perkins witnessed the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory in the Spring of 1911, she embarked upon a career fighting for workers rights and protections. That work would take her all the way to the White House - as the first woman cabinet member and the longest serving Secretary of Labor under FDR. Thanks in part to her tireless work, American workers are now protected by legislation and programs such as social security, unemployment insurance, a federal minimum wage, and child labor laws. Join MCC professor of History, Mark Sample, to learn all about Perkin's pioneering work and lasting legacy.
