Opera Houses and Halls of the Genesee Country In-Person

From the mid-19th century to the Depression, nearly every city, village or hamlet in New York had its own opera house or hall, but did they only show operas? The answer may surprise you! Learn about the role of the opera house—some of which remain, albeit hidden, to this day—in our ancestors' social life, and see examples of the most frequently built styles from a ten-county region. The presenter, Jane Oakes, has over 50 years of experience in historic education and maintains the largest known database of opera houses and halls across New York. Registration recommended.
