Author Talk: Shipwrecks of Lake Ontario by Jim Kennard

Author Talk: Shipwrecks of Lake Ontario by Jim Kennard In-Person

Jim Kennard will take the audience on a 50-year journey of shipwreck exploration, drawing from his new book that chronicles some of the most important shipwrecks discovered in Lake Ontario by his teams and fellow explorers. These discoveries include two of the oldest shipwrecks found in the Great Lakes: the 1780 British warship Ontario and the sloop Washington, lost in 1803. The presentation features underwater images and video of these sunken historic treasures. Kennard's book Shipwrecks of Lake Ontario – A Journey of Discovery will be available for purchase.

About the presenter: Jim Kennard has been diving and exploring northeastern lakes since 1970, discovering more than 200 shipwrecks across the Great Lakes, Lake Champlain, the Finger Lakes, and the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers. Using his electrical engineering background, he built the side scan sonar system that located many of these wrecks. Kennard and his teams have been featured in publications including National Geographic, Sea Technology, Inland Seas, and Wreck Diving, and have appeared on the Discovery Channel, CBC, BBC, Fox News, and National Geographic’s “Drain the Oceans” series. In addition to searching for elusive shipwrecks, he is an avid hiker and amateur radio operator.
