Genealogy Basics

Genealogy Basics In-Person

Just in the time for the holiday family gatherings! Have you been thinking about diving into doing a bit of family history research? Genealogy can be an extremely rewarding (and daunting) project and it can be overwhelming on where to even begin. Don’t worry, this easy-to-understand program that focuses on FREE resources will help you get started!

Genealogy research helps us develop our Literacy Skills when we use critical thinking skills to analyze our sources and to create a thoroughly researched summary about what we learned through that process. It's also a great way to build our storytelling and communication skills while also preserving the past for future generations.

About the presenter: Mindy Wallington spent about 10 years in Rare Books, Special Collections, and Preservation at the University of Rochester, where she assisted dozens of scholarly researchers with accessing archival materials. She oversaw genealogy inquiries which drew on resources in local history collections such as Rochester-area orphanages. Before that, Mindy grew up next door to her grandparents on their 100+ year old family farm in the Rochester area and loved listening to stories about farm life in the late 1800s/early 1900s.
