Gaylords Reunion

Gaylords Reunion In-Person / Online

Emerging from Rochester's eastside, the Gaylords were one of many boys’ and girls’ social clubs that formed in Black communities in the 1950s. These groups served as positive outlets for youth experiencing the hardships of inner-city poverty and were often led by both Black and White college students and recent graduates. Brought together by the Baden Street Settlement, the Gaylords would go on to play basketball matches across New York State and host several community events, forming a lifelong bond in the process. Beginning in the 1980s, the club launched its annual Gaylords Reunion, a tradition which the group maintained for fifteen years.

Please join us for a new Gaylords Reunion as three of the club’s original members, Joe Dunbar, Charles “Buddy” Granston, and Allen Scott explore the past in a lively conversation moderated by Librarian Antoine Ajani McDonald.
