Irondequoit Historical Society - History of the Winona Woods Neighborhood In-Person
Join the Irondequoit Historical Society as we welcome Jule Rayburn. Jule has lived in Irondequoit for 70 years, growing up on Amerige Park and attending Parkside, Rogers, and IHS. He is the treasurer of the Irondequoit Historical Society and is a volunteer in the Town Historian’s Office
Jule will be talking about one of our town’s neighborhoods, Winona Woods. The Winona Woods Neighborhood runs between St. Paul Blvd and Seneca Park - from Titus Avenue north to the end of Winona Blvd in the 3500 block of St. Paul. This area has a noteworthy history that encompasses peach orchards, farmland, and housing developed for the growing population. Previous to its growth and development, the area was known for its’ deep forests and the rifle range located at the foot of the bluffs near the end of Chestnut Hill Drive.
Through the use of a variety of sources - including plat maps from the turn of the century to the 1960s - Jule will be sharing information about the early developers and some of the storied homes in the area.
