Orchids and the 2026 Genesee Region Orchid Society Show and Sale In-Person

Orchids are fascinating plants with interesting and often beautiful flowers. Learn about orchids and how to grow them in Rochester in anticipation of the 2026 Genesee Region Orchid Show, April 17-19, at the Rochester Museum and Science Center, Eisenhart Auditorium. David S. Weiss is a Kodak-retired PhD chemist. He began growing orchids and joined the Genesee Region Orchid Society (GROS) over 45 years ago after a friend gave him an orchid.  He grows orchids under lights in his basement and outdoors in the Summer.  He is a past President  of the GROS. The talk, “Orchids and the 2026 Genesee Region Orchid Society Show and Sale” will have a slide show and he will bring blooming orchids to discuss. The talk will include basic information on orchid distribution around the world, identification characteristics, naming, and of course how to grow orchids in northern New York.  The goal of the talk is to promote the Orchid Show and demonstrate that growing orchids in the home is easy if you follow a few very simple “rules”.  The first rule is that “there are no rules”.  Want to find out what this means?  You’ll have to attend the talk.  Please bring in your orchids for discussion. They might be very happy with beautiful flowers, or maybe a little sad and need some special care. Attendees will receive a discount coupon for the Show.
