Rochester International Film Festival Presents: "Focus on Rochester" In-Person
Each year, the Rochester International Film Festival presents selected short films from around the world at the Dryden Theatre. Festival attendees vote for their favorites, which the Rochester International Film Festival offers as their "Best of the Fest" programs.
- The first of these programs on January 20 is entitled: "A Short Trip Around the World."
- The second of these programs on February 19 is entitled: "Comedies"
- The third of these programs on March 26 is entitled: "Focus on Rochester" (These are films that were made by a local filmmaker or have some local connection.)
These are the short films that will be shown at the Webster Public Library on March 26 from the program entitled "Focus on Rochester:"
- "The Animated Star Spangled Banner" (1990) | 2 min | Animated | USA | RIT student project using color animation and choir from Park Road Elementary School in Pittsford, NY. Directed by Skip Battaglia.
- "This Land" (2025) | 20 min | Documentary | USA | In 1974, a group of Mohawk Indians were dissatisfied with the overcrowding, drugs and alcoholism on the reservation. They decided to leave and set up the community of the Ganienkeh where they could follow a traditional way of life. This film follows their story and the role of New York State in establishing a permanent homeland. Filmed on an Adirondacks reservation.
- "The Alibi" (2000) | 12 min | Comedy | USA | A man hires a hit man to eliminate his wife, with unexpected consequences. By local FM Matt Ehlers. Filmed on location at Cathay Pagoda Restaurant on Main St. and Tapas 177 on St. Paul St.
- "Let's Have Tea" (2007)| 25 min | Documentary | USA | This documentary is about the production of "Let's Have Tea", a sculpture that pays tribute to two of America's greatest social revolutionaries, Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglass. The sculpture, created by Pepsy Kettavog is located in Susan B. Anthony Square Park on Madison Street, just across from the Susan B. Anthony House. Film created by Pepsy Kettavog.
- "Kodachrome" (2007) | 5 min | Narrative | USA | Kodak introduced Kodachrome color reversal film in 1935 and stopped production in 2006. This Super 8 film is a humorous final homage to this magnificent material. Features Rochester.
- "Donna's Room" (2005) | 17 min | Drama | USA | A woman awakens to find herself in a strange room with her hands bound. A mysterious man appears with knowledge of Donna's past. Does he hold the key to setting her free? By local filmmakers Michael Bartolotta and Stephan Lindsay at Monroe Community Hospital.
- "George Lucas in Love" (2000) | 9 min | Comedy | USA | Young George Lucas, struggling to write his student film Space Oats, the story of a young intergalactic space farmer, has writer's block, until a beauty with big hair buns shows him that the makings of his masterpiece are all around him. By local filmmaker Joe Nussbaum.
