Rochester International Film Festival Presents: "Comedies" In-Person
Each year, the Rochester International Film Festival presents selected short films from around the world at the Dryden Theatre. Festival attendees vote for their favorites, which the Rochester International Film Festival offers as their "Best of the Fest" programs.
- The first of these programs on January 20 is entitled: "A Short Trip Around the World."
- The second of these programs on February 19 is entitled: "Comedies"
- The third of these programs on March 26 is entitled: "Focus on Rochester" (These are films that were made by a local filmmaker or have some local connection.)
These are the short films that will be shown at the Webster Public Library on February 19 from the program entitled "Comedies:"
- "The Immaculate Conception Photography Gallery" (2017) | 15 min | Comedy | Canada | Past and present collide as a photographer laboriously alters images.
- "This is Not Norway" (2024) | 18 min | Comedy | Spain | A family in Spain is challenged by their father’s dying wish to be honored with a Viking funeral.
- "Coffee and a Donut" (2020) | 12 min | Comedy | USA | A story of a young immigrant who knows no English and the difficulties he has ordering at a local diner.
- "The Traffic Separating Device" (2019) |15 min | Documentary/Comedy | Sweden | In the busy streets of Stockholm, a traffic separating device generates mixed results and opinions.
- "Altarcations" (2011) | 6 min | Comedy | Canada | When controlling Linda is overwhelmed by her wedding plans and uncompromising fiance, Larry seeks couple counseling from a remarkable priest.
- "The Robbery" (2021) | 10 min | Comedy | Canada | Two teams of gunmen simultaneously stick up the same convenience store.
- "Just Laugh" (2024) | 16 min | Documentary | USA | A community theater company stages a comedy that challenges the skills of the crew and the safety of the cast. Yet, this production provides an opportunity for reflection on the importance of the theater company to all involved. Presented at GEVA Theatre in the fall of 2025 under the name "The Play That Goes Wrong" as a co-production with the Indiana Repertory Theatre.
