New York State 380 Million Years Ago In-Person

Retired paleontologist Dan Krisher specializes in the fossils and geological history of New York State.

Dan will present New York State's rich geological history, which began over one billion years ago. His talk will focus on a span of time from 419 to 359 million years ago called the Devonian. The Devonian of New York state preserves a time of vast shallow tropical seas with a wide variety of familiar and strange lifeforms. On the shores of this ancient sea the rocks of the state also display evidence of the first known forests. This talk will also provide an overview of these ancient lifeforms and the geologic process affecting the state during the Devonian.
