Cannabis: Wage & Hour Requirements! Online
Wage and hour laws for the cannabis industry are the same for both licensed and ancillary cannabis businesses. In this class, the Cannabis Workforce Initiative will discuss what this means and what’s needed to stay in compliance.
· WAGE AND HOUR BASICS: Learn how federal, NYS, and local laws establish minimum wage, overtime, and compensation standards.
· EMPLOYEE CLASSIFICATION: Understand how job duties and salary determine classification—and why most employees are entitled to overtime when properly classified.
· IDENTIFY RISKS AND COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS: Recognize common mistakes like off-the-books pay, improper 1099s, and failure to pay for all hours worked.
· ENSURE COMPLIANCE WITH KEY LAWS: Understand employer responsibilities under the Wage Theft Prevention Act and Wage Transparency Act, including pay notices, wage statements, and salary disclosures.
· BEST PRACTICES TO AVOID PENALTIES: Learn how to implement compliant pay policies, maintain accurate records, and create fair, equitable workplace practices.
