Monroe County was not a site for any of the battles of the Revolutionary War, but the conflict and the ideas (and ideals) that inspired it were nonetheless highly influential in the area's development. Join Rochester & Monroe County Historian Christine L. Ridarsky to discuss the many ways in which the American Revolution has shaped the lives from local residents. From the Seneca people who lived on these lands long before Europeans arrived, to the veterans who settled here with their families, to the reformers who cited the nation's founding documents to argue for the abolition of slavery and women's rights, Rochester's Revolutionary Roots run deep.
Christine L. Ridarsky is Rochester & Monroe County Historian. She has a master's degree in American History from SUNY Brockport and has completed coursework toward a PhD at the University of Rochester. She is co-editor of Rochester History journal and co-editor of Susan B. Anthony and the Struggle for Women's Rights (University of Rochester Press, 2012).
