DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wondered about the deep roots of Rochester’s 
 Black history? In celebration of America’s 250th birthday\, join us on a 
 journey back through time to explore the incredible stories that unfolded 
 right here in Rochester\, New York. From pioneering abolitionist Austin 
 Steward to groundbreaking scientist Dr. Walter Cooper\, we will highlight 
 notable Black individuals\, businesses\, organizations that shaped our 
 community. Hosted by the Archive of Black History and Culture\, this FREE 
 program features a curated display of historical documents\, photographs\, 
 ephemera\, and artifacts that bring Rochester’s rich Black legacy to 
 life.\n\nThe Archive of Black History and Culture is an innovative 
 community-curated archive within the Rochester Public Library on a mission 
 to work collaboratively with community stakeholders to identify\, collect\, 
 preserve\, and disseminate resources that document the past\, present\, and 
 future experiences of Black people in the Greater Rochester 
 region.\n\nAntoine McDonald is a native Rochesterian\, graduating from 
 Wilson Magnet High School and a double Historically Black 
 College/University graduate. McDonald serves as a Reference Librarian in 
 the Local History & Genealogy Division\, and as project manager for the 
 Archive of Black History & Culture. McDonald is the only African American 
 male Librarian in the Rochester Public Library system.
