Irish Music in Rochester: An Ethnic Revival in Postwar America In-Person / Online
Join Christopher Shannnon as he explores the surprising and near-miraculous revival of traditional Irish music in post-World War II Rochester, New York. Inspired by the achievements of The Clancy Brothers and The Chieftains, local Rochester musicians created the liveliest Irish music scene in Upstate New York. Come learn of the people and places that made this possible: The Irish Inn, The Harps’ Club, The Emmigrants, Marty O’Keefe, The Dady Brothers, and many more.
Christopher Shannon grew up in The Tenth Ward in northwest Rochester. He received a B.A. in English from the University of Rochester and a Ph.D. in American Studies from Yale University. He is the author of six books of American cultural history, most recently, Singing from the Heart: The Dady Brothers, Irish Music and Ethnic Endurance in an American City.
