City Mark: A Rochester Icon Documentary Screening In-Person
A documentary film exploring the origin, evolution, and lasting impact of one of Rochester’s most recognizable symbols.
From its creation in the 1970s to its place in today’s culture, the City Mark’s simple design became a powerful expression of identity, pride, and belonging.
Through archival footage, local voices, and new interviews, the documentary traces the mark’s journey — from a government design initiative to a symbol embraced by the community. It’s a design story, but more importantly, it’s a story about people.
Premiering in spring 2026, the film is part of a celebration honoring 50 years of the City Mark and its role in shaping Rochester’s visual identity.
After the documentary screening, there will be an opportunity to create a work of art inspired by the City Mark using Gelli plates provided by Summit Federal Credit Union. All materials will be provided. No registration required.
