An American Tradition: Songs of Protest & Hope In-Person
An American Tradition - Songs of Protest & Hope, will tell of labor rights, civil rights, migrant struggles; of war and the quest for peace; of nature's threatened borders.
And hope. We "explore the rich legacy of music as a powerful voice for social change and resilience in America. Our program highlights songs that have given expression to struggle, justice, and the enduring belief in a better future."
We will sing the familiar "This Land Is Your Land", and lesser known "The Wolves", present composers from decades ago like Woody Guthrie and John Prine, and more recent, like Jesse Wells an our own Mark Martin. We are 5 musicians, coming from an array of styles and instruments; Tom Bushnell on guitar/mandolin/dobro, Karen Canning on cello, Mark Martin on bass, Howie Lester on fiddle, Mary Lester on Celtic harp. We all sing.
