 before it became policy—placing him at the center of the league’s 
 formative years.\n\nWith football season underway\, it’s the perfect 
 moment to revisit this remarkable legacy—told through the personal lens 
 of Lyons’ great-grandson\, John Steffenhagen and award-winning author and
