The Rochester Riot of 1872 In-Person
Early in 1872, Rochester was in the national spotlight following an arrest for a brutal attack on a young girl. A riot ensued, tinged by race and ethnicity. Monroe County Sheriff Joseph Campbell, determined to ensure due process, called out the militia. The resulting mayhem became national news. Presented by Dennis Carr of the Friends of Mount Hope Cemetery. Registration recommended.
