Iroquois Gardeners In-Person

The Iroquois combined their spiritual beliefs with a deep knowledge of both wild and cultivated plants. This talk, by Jack Kowiak, will give you an appreciation for their cultural beliefs, and how these beliefs influenced their approach to agriculture. Their innovative approaches to cultivation are studied by agricultural colleges today. You will learn about a plant that was as important to the Iroquois as the buffalo was to the Plains Indian. Local settlers had good reasons to be impressed with the agricultural talent of our local Haudenosaunee, and you will be too!
