Jim Thorpe: American Athlete & Hero In-Person

Jim Thorpe was a Native American and one of the best athletes in American history. Yet his story is filled with heartache and discrimination. He attended the Carlisle Industrial School in Pennsylvania, which was an in institution intended to assimilate young Native Americans into white American culture. He then won two gold medals in the 1912 Olympics, only to have them taken away. He was also a professional football and baseball player, but was never able to stay with any team long-term. Despite all that, he is looked at today by many as one of the most important athletes in the first half of the 20th century. Join MCC professor of history Mark Sample as he tells the story of this important man. Registration recommended.
