BUILDING THE ERIE CANAL: THE DEEP CUT In-Person
As the Erie Canal neared completion, the final push was to make the Deep Cut through the Niagara Escarpment. Michael McCarthy, President of the Irish American Cultural Institute, Rochester Chapter, and local author, will examine the difficulties the engineers faced and how the Irish laborers contributed to making the nearly impossible task a reality. July 4, 2017 marked the Bicentennial Celebration of the Erie Canal.
