A Time in the Life of Frederick Douglass, Shields Green and a Woman Called Moses In-Person
Experience a critical time in the life of Frederick Douglass through the skilled reenacting of AKWAABA. In "A Time in the Life of Frederick Douglass," AKWAABA shows Frederick Douglass in his familiar role as agitator and abolitionist prior to the Raid on Harper's Ferry. He interacts with Harriet Tubman as she visits him at his home and introduces him to Shields Green who subsequently participates in the ill fated Raid.
AKWAABA’ s living history presenters are Rochester residents who are accomplished educators, social workers, and healthcare professionals. Many have extended their love of history by researching their families’ genealogies and teaching the skill to others. Some are professional storytellers. All are involved in numerous community organizations. They come together out of their desire to accurately tell the story of the Underground Railroad.
