Girls In Architecture & Engineering -

Mondays, February 25, March 4, & March 11, 4:00-6:00 PM

For Grades 6-8

*Registration opens January 28; limited to 15 girls*

Registration is for all three sessions, and we strongly encourage attendance to all the sessions. This is a hands-on/interactive series of workshops that introduce girls to the fields of architecture and engineering and encourage girls to take STEM courses in high school.

Session 1 - Architecture: introduction, plans and elevation of a small house - relative scale, roof slopes, understanding engineering systems enough to work with engineers and how they affect building design.

Session 2 - Engineering: structural, mechanical, electrical, & plumbing - intruduction to all building engineering, wood-framed wall project, tied to elevation in Session 1, examples of MEP components/systems - tie-in STEM with basic structural design considerations/load distribution and MEP system calculations/science.

Session 3 - Options: 3D modeling/sketching/energy modeling programs (different programs, utilize 1-3 designs from Session 1 to show examples), career options, schooling/licensing requirements, tie-in STEM with computer programs and classes offered in high school.
