LGBTQ+ Historic Sites Walking Tour In-Person
In this historic walking tour, you will discover the story of the LGBTQ+ resistance movement as it took place in Rochester’s Washington Square Neighborhood and Midtown District from the 1970’s to the 2000s.
The tour begins in the Washington Square Neighborhood, home to elegant theaters, plush watering holes, and fashionable shopping before and after World War II, and includes stops in Washington Square Park, the former Dick’s Tavern, and the site of the former Top of the Plaza Restaurant in Midtown Tower.

Larry Francer is the Associate Director of Preservation at the Landmark Society of Western New York. Evelyn Bailey is an educator, political activist, and historian for the Out Alliance. Bailey is Executive Producer of Shoulders To Stand On (2013), a documentary on the history of the Rochester’s gay and lesbian community.
This program is offered in conjunction with the Stonewall: 50 Years Out exhibit, on view at the Central Library through July 20.
