Genesee Street Business Corridor Film Project Info Session In-Person
UR students will present to the southwest Rochester community their about their Genesee Street Business Corridor film project
Complementary light food and drink from Brooks Landing Diner and B+Healthy will be provided.
The film project features two businesses on Genesee Street: the well-established and popular Brooks Landing Diner and one of the latest additions to the local food map, B+Healthy Fresh Food Market. As a creative response to the residents’ suggestion from the 2018 community survey for more intentional promotion, the short film blends puppetry, true customer stories, and live interviews with Sue Choi of the Diner and Kaptah Xi-Amuru of the Fresh Food Market. Tom Bohrer, Elizabeth and Mary Weeg— founder and members of Puppet Trio and long-time local residents—will also participate with post-presentation activities!
The film is created by students of Stella Wang, UR Associate Professor of the Writing, Speaking, and Argument Program. Incorporated into their collaborative work are students’ site visit notes, filming techniques involving green screen and drone-captured aerial footage, and a process called community-engaged transcreation. You have to attend to find out what all that means! Come join the fun and the hearty conversation about community-university collaboration, local businesses, and community bonding!
