A Hope Deferred: America After the Civil War
On Wednesday, June 19th from 5:30pm to 6:30pm, join local author Robert Djed Snead as he presents his lecture A Hope Deferred: America After the Civil War, which will provide an overview of experiences from Reverened JW Loguen and General Carl Schurz.
Reverend Loguen returned to the south, reunited with his mother, and shared his observations of his post-war experiences in newspaper accounts and personal journals. General Schurz was an advisor to President Johnson who advocated for voting rights for all freedmen as a condition for readmission to the Union. Although his report was ultimately ignored by President Johnson, his suggestion would have been a momentous change in American politics. All ages, no registration required.
