American Experience Documentary: Chasing the Moon Part 1 “The Early Days” and “Astronauts & Politics”

American Experience Documentary: Chasing the Moon Part 1 “The Early Days” and “Astronauts & Politics” In-Person

Join us Wednesday, July 10 for a screening of part 1 of the American Experience Documentary series, "Chasing The Moon." It’s 1961 and the space race is gaining momentum. While the rivalry with the Soviet Union intensifies, President Kennedy publicly champions America’s Space program, challenging the nation to land a man on the moon. Join us as we take a look back at how Astronauts became heroes for the nation and the impact on their families. And how by 1963, the aim of getting to the moon, though full of challenges, begins to take momentum.

These screenings are sponsored in partnership with WXXI and the Monroe County Library System. Major funding provided by The Corporation for Public Broadcasting and National Endowment for the Humanities. Additional funding provided by The Arthur Vining Davis Foundations, The Documentary Investment Group- Ira & Diana Riklis. Local Support provided by Village at Unity, RMSC- Strasenberg Planetarium and Cobblestone Capital Advisors.
