Hour of Healing and Remembrance

Hour of Healing and Remembrance Online

In 6 months over 150,000 U.S. lives have been lost to Covid-19. Many are hurting- physically, economically, and spiritually.
By joining with others in the community, we can find solace in taking the time to grieve. We can also honor the essential workers who have risked their lives and rededicate ourselves to ending the injustices that have been revealed by the pandemic.

During this hour, artist Katie Jo Suddaby https://www.sandbykatiejo.com/ will create a sand mandala, a symbol of the beauty and impermanence of life, and flutists Jahshanti Henry and Laura Lentz will play music that comforts and uplifts. The hour will conclude with animated videos to accompany two pieces written for Laura Lentz in this period, “Lullaby” by Seattle-based composer Mina Esary, and "The Birds Return to an Empty City" by Rochester-based composer Nick Morandi.

All are encouraged to submit comments: memories of loved ones, words of encouragement, greetings to those in quarantine, and gratitude for our essential workers. If you are unable to comment during the event, please send your comments to mfraser@libraryweb.org by 8/27 to be included.
