Rochester Writes: Playwriting

Rochester Writes: Playwriting Online

What is playwriting? It’s where critical thinking meets imagination, where plumbing meets art, where structure is everything and there’s an audience waiting in real time—so you better get to saying what you want to say before that fly buzzing around the stage lights becomes the only living thing in the theater holding anyone’s attention.  Want to learn more?  Come join us for this four-part general introduction to the art and craft of playwriting, with discussion and readings to explore dramatic action, character, and what it takes to create a memorable moment in the theater.

This class takes place online via Zoom. It is a weekly four-part series; when registering, please plan on participating in all four sessions.  The Zoom link will be emailed to you the day before the first class.

Instructor Howard Marc Solomon is an award-winning writer in theater, film, and television.  Most recently, his play HOTEL EUROPA was selected as a semi-finalist for O’Neill National Playwright’s Conference.  His plays and translations have performed throughout the US, from New York to Los Angeles.  He holds an MFA in Playwriting from Carnegie Mellon University and has taught writing and criticism at the University of Rochester and the College of New Rochelle. He’s thrilled be sharing what he knows with the Rochester Writes community.
