Water Quality Scavenger Hunt with Monroe County Soil & Water Conservation District In-Person
Kids and their families are welcomed to join Monroe County SWCD at Rotary Park to learn all about water quality and stream health through a “scavenger hunt” for macroinvertebrates. Macroinvertebrates can be divided into different groups to determine stream health, and which group is present is actually much more effective in determining health than chemical or physical tests. We will use kick-net sampling techniques to find what macroinvertebrates are living in Honeoye Creek, which we will then use to determine how healthy the stream is. Attendees are welcome to join in on the sampling, but to do so requires proper attire (high boots or protective footwear to avoid slipping or bruising in the creek). All macroinvertebrates will be released back to the stream at the end of the activity.
