Bicyclist Elsa von Blumen In-Person
Bicyclist Elsa von Blumen -
Thursday, June 9, 7:00-8:00 PM
For Adults
*Registration opens May 26*
Elsa von Blumen was a premier female athlete before it was even thought possible that women could be professional athletes! Growing up in Rochester, NY, she first became a professional “pedestrienne” in 1879 and was soon enticed to try high-wheel bicycle riding by bicycle manufacturer Albert Pope. She was a prominent figure on the bicycle-racing scene in the 1880s but is all but forgotten today. Karen Lankeshofer, the presenter, has a very interesting story to tell about Rochester’s pioneer athlete.
