2022 Historian’s Walking Tour

Bill Poray, Perinton Town Historian

Our 2022 walking tour will have a special focus on the Erie Canal, as we celebrate our 200th year of navigation in Fairport and Perinton. The first documented canal boats transported goods and passengers in May of 1822.

Our tour will include much of the canal shoreline in the central portion of the village, and the Main and Parker Street bridges.

The streets we will tour were home to some of Fairport’s earliest businesses, hotels, and residences. During our walk, we will rediscover the early commercial district and its people, including stories of early Fairport entrepreneurs, community and business leaders, and soldiers.

Our walk will begin and end at the gazebo at Kennelley Park, just outside the Fairport Public Library. Total distance is approximately one mile.
