Consider the Oyster (via Zoom) Online
Oysters are one of the most fascinating creatures of the ocean. This virtual class will consider the oyster from many perspectives, including the relationship between humans and oysters throughout history, the biological distinctiveness of this bivalve, and its many culinary uses. Participants will also be treated to video footage of operating oyster farms and interviews with oyster farmers in Maine. Whether you love oysters or prefer to leave them in the sea, everyone will learn something new in this deep dive into all things oysters.
Maya Rook is a cultural historian, college educator, and yoga instructor living in rural, coastal Maine where lobsters, clams, and oysters abound! Her partner owns an oyster farm and oysters just happen to be one of her favorite foods. When she's not enjoying the salty air and tasty seafood of Maine, Maya offers a variety of engaging virtual and in-person events that include explorations into a range of both popular and obscure historical and cultural topics, as well as meditative and magical practices.
